Abstract
This chapter presents the findings from a collaboration of dance, sound, space and digital technology, itself a prime mover as a developing agent to new sensibilities. At the heart of this collaboration is the performance of Open State choreographed and directed by Adam Benjamin with the disabled and non-disabled dancers of Integrated Dance Company-Kyo and concept design and music composition by artist and architect Mathew Emmett. The work premiered in Tokyo in July 2015. Open State emphasizes the interrelationships between physical and social integration, movement and spatial organization, drawing upon experimental dance and the non-traditional exploration of acoustic space.

A second improvisation took place in the Saison Studio, Tokyo 19.30, 30 June 2015, watched on Skype by dancers in Plymouth (12.30 GMT), whose voices and commentary were recorded for future work.
