Notes on Illegal Drugs and Trafficking in Argentina



This chapter studies the case effect of illegal drugs in Argentina. It seeks to answer questions such as the following: what is the magnitude of the drug market in Argentina? What individuals are most likely to become addicts? What phase of the drug epidemic is the country currently in? Who gets treatment and how effective is it? Why does violence break out in some cities but not others? What is the degree of involvement of police and government officials with the drug business? It studies whether Argentina is a country of high use or simply a transit country for illegal drugs shipped to Europe or other markets. This chapter provides scientific information on the scope of the drug problems, the levels of drug use, and it assess the magnitude and value of the illegal drug markets in this country.
