Abstract

This introductory chapter reviews the central problems of narcotics in the region within the international context. It poses the central questions of the effect of the growing role of illegal drugs, and shows how it has affected the Latin American social, political and economic life. It summarizes the core arguments of the book, and briefly reviews the content of each chapter.
