Abstract
Shovel excavators represent the most widespread type of earthmoving machine. The work of an excavator consists of periodically repeated cycles, each of which includes raising the filled bucket, swinging it to the dumping site, dumping the soil, swinging back and lowering the empty bucket. The main elements of the working mechanism of an excavator are the shovel boom, dipper stick, bucket and links enabling them to swing. The paper deals with structural and geometric analysis of the mechanism. The kinematics of the mechanism has been studied and the force analysis is presented.
