Abstract

Besides the GUI screen, usually a game requires other multiple screens, such as, splash screen, setting screen, instruction screen, and the like. How to organize these multiple screens such that only one of them will be visible at a time? This chapter extends the game Pong with an additional splash screen for demonstrating the suitability of the CardLayout manager for that purpose. In addition, the game Pong is further extended with more features, such as, increasing the number of bouncing balls with different animation speeds, changing the objective of the game from bouncing balls to catching balls, in order to explore the significance of the word “extension”.
