Abstract

This chapter addresses the concepts of practice, advocacy, and outreach as they pertain to addiction and/or substance abuse. There are many different ways that each of these concepts can be viewed. For the purpose of this chapter, definitions for each concept are provided to explain of how each is viewed. The terms addiction, substance dependence, and substance abuse are used interchangeably, as are substance abuse care and substance abuse treatment and client(s), patient(s), and individual(s) with an addiction.
