Abstract

This introductory chapter will discuss (1) the complexity associated with making a specific diagnosis when individuals have both mental illness and substance use disorder, (2) treatment associated with dual diagnosis, (3) issues of cultural competency as it pertains to this topic, and (4) overall implications for this topic for the future.
