Abstract
Patient positioning plays a critical role in optimizing surgical outcomes in the management of spinal tumors. Whether involving the paravertebral compartment, the osseous structures, or intramedullary careful consideration to approach to limit morbidity and maximize extent of resection, often for curative intent can be just as important as the execution of the surgery. Even in metastatic disease, where palliation is oftentimes the goal, positioning can optimize the balance between morbidity and surgical goals. We will consider the best management practice as objectively demonstrated in the medical literature across the wide variety of spinal tumors and how positioning can have a direct impact on achieving those goals.
