Abstract
Our actual story starts only now. It was the end of March 1672 when Leibniz arrived in Paris. He had no inkling of mathematics, he did not know Newton (and vice versa!), but he was quite confident concerning his own skills. Within a few years to come a cold war will develop which will turn hot only much later.
