Abstract
The previous chapters were stepping-stones to this chapter. This chapter is how to walk the talk of multicultural counseling competencies and see the client from his worldview. It advocates culturally appropriate treatment designed for the client whose worldview is different from the dominant cultural worldview. With emphasis on a provider’s preparedness in attitude, knowledge, emotion, inquiry skills, and listening skills for successful culturally appropriate treatment/ healing, the chapter discusses the importance of a provider’s accepting and open attitude and thorough knowledge not only in traditional personality theories but also in nontraditional healing techniques. The chapter emphasizes the provider’s ability to pay attention to her own affective information processing which is the foundation for her ability to provide rapport and to observe transference and countertransference. Concrete strategies, such as case studies, earlier chapter examples, uncensored writing responses to specific questions, and my clinical experiences, are provided for students’ transformative learning.
