Management of Open Globe Injuries

Abstract

A 31-year-old man presented with a Zone II-III open globe injury of the left eye. The patient was using a fishing knife which then projected from his hand and hit his left eye. The patient underwent repair of this open globe injury. Although he had a significant penetrating injury, the patient had an excellent visual outcome. Penetrating injuries often have better visual outcomes than significant blunt ocular trauma. This patient’s postoperative course was complicated by a peripheral choroidal rupture; however, given the location, it did not impact his visual acuity.
