The Wild Oryza Genomes

Part of the book series: Compendium of Plant Genomes ((CPG))

Abstract

Oryza australiensis is a perennial widely distributed across northern Australia. This species has a large and poorly characterized genome with a high content of repetitive elements. The large plants have rhizomes that help them survive the dry season. The grains have starch properties that differ significantly from those of other Oryza species. The sequence of the nuclear genome has not been reported, but a chloroplast genome sequence is available. This species represents a potential source of resistance to abiotic and biotic stress and grain traits for rice breeding.
