Abstract
This chapter attempts to establish the reality of human trafficking as a way of justifying the study. It provides data, both guesstimates and official, to back up the reality and uniqueness of human trafficking as a global phenomenon. Different forms of human trafficking in the Southern African region, and in South Africa and Mozambique in particular, are highlighted and discussed. The chapter essentially outlines the objectives, problem, assumptions and structure of the book.
