Abstract
An independent medical evaluation is an evaluation conducted by a third-party physician usually in the context of a medicolegal claim. Several systems utilize IMEs including workers compensation, personal liability, veterans administration, and social security disability. There is no formal training on IMEs that is available to physicians, but several organizations provide continuing medical education activities whereby skills can be acquired.
