Tennis Medicine

Abstract

The tennis player’s shoulder joint is subject to severe and repetitive stress. The forceful and explosive movements of the sport, especially serve and smash shots, place a heavy strain on musculotendinous and capsuloligamentous structures. Moreover, the fast and forceful movements required to wield increasingly light racquets—the result of continuous advances in materials research—also involve severe impacts on soft tissues.
