Abstract
A 38-year-old female, BMI 50 kg/m2, 4′11″, ASA 2, was scheduled for a Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. Her past history was significant for Wegener granulomatosis and asthma. The former was treated 2 years prior with prednisone, azathioprine, and antibiotics. At that time her spirometry showed a mild flattening of the inspiratory limb of her flow-volume curve. Since her asthma was successfully treated with albuterol and mometasone furoate inhalers, no further pulmonary investigations were carried out. A chest x-ray done 1 week prior to the surgery was normal.
