Abstract

It is important that health professionals encourage all older people, regardless of age or health conditions, to engage in a regular programme that includes cardiovascular, strength, and balance components, and to maintain the highest levels of physical activity possible. Health professionals should also focus on developing the older person’s self-efficacy and emphasising the enjoyment of participating in exercise programmes. It is critical that health professional workers are mindful of ensuring that a programme following best practice guidelines is prescribed and that effective behaviour change methods are used when engaging with the older person, to maximise uptake, engagement, and adherence.
