Atlas of Pediatric Dermatoscopy

Abstract

Congenital triangular alopecia is a circumscribed form of non-scarring alopecia of unclear etiology that is usually noticed in children between 2 and 4 years of age. It generally involves unilaterally or, less frequently, bilaterally the frontotemporal temporal region of the scalp. Dermatoscopy enhances the visualization of a carpet of short vellus hairs within the patch as well as normal follicular openings with no evidence of scarring alopecia, allowing the differential diagnosis with other forms of hair loss.
