Abstract

Pityriasis lichenoides et varioliformis acuta and pityriasis lichenoides chronica are inflammatory skin disorders of unknown origin. Dermatoscopy may be useful for a noninvasive differential diagnosis with other papular disorders. The lesions of the acute form generally display a central whitish area or an amorphous brownish crust surrounded by a well-defined ring of pinpoint (glomerular at higher magnification) and/or linear vessels with a targetoid aspect. The papules of the chronic variant typically feature orange-yellowish structureless areas along with nondotted vessels and/or focal/sparse dotted vessels.
