Abstract

This chapter focuses on the author’s experience in leadership of national organizations developed over a 40-year career. It discusses the path to leadership as well as the possible roles of a leader. As the needs of organizations differ, the importance of recognizing the groups’ needs is stressed. Finally, the opportunity inherent in leadership is detailed. Just as there are opportunities to lead, pitfalls may derail those chances, and some of these issues are discussed.
