Abstract

The complexity of social, economic, and cultural problems in contemporary society can be addressed through interdisciplinary studies in the arts, liberal arts, and professional programs. The arts have been shown to contribute to developing professional skills, community, and citizenship. The founding of the National Endowment for the Humanities and the National Endowments of Arts in 1965, outlines the critical importance of the arts for democracy.
