Abstract
The iconic painting Impression, Sunrise by Claude Monet has a special interest in part because the title inspired the name of the Impressionist movement after this work appeared in an 1874 Paris exhibition. The date of Impression, Sunrise has long been a subject of controversy. Not only the time of year but even the calendar year of the painting is in dispute, with both 1872 and 1873 cited by various authors.
