Abstract

Important personnel (current and former) in the Trump administration such as Rex Tillerson, Steve Bannon, James Comey, James Mattis, Michael Flynn, H.R. McMaster, Sebastian Gorka, and others are discussed regarding their impact on national security policies. Starr-Deelen examines the outlines of President Trump’s foreign policy and his approach to counterterrorism. A diplomat from a NATO ally describes the March 2017 summit on terrorism in an interview with the author. Trump’s use of force in Somalia, Yemen, Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan are explored, in addition to questions regarding accountability, secrecy, and the need for another authorization for the use of military force.
