Abstract

This chapter introduces the High Court of Tanzania through the story of its last colonial judge, Philip Biron. It lays out the book’s central questions and argument, situating this study in the histories of imperial and colonial court systems, the British colonial judiciary, and the process of decolonisation. This chapter concludes with a discussion of the method and sources, and an outline of the book’s chapters and key findings.
