The School

This chapter familiarizes the reader with the six selected schools by providing a complete account of the school’s activities in relation to the four pathways in which education has been said to influence tolerance. This selection includes a Roman Catholic Independent (RCI), a Roman Catholic State (RCS), an Evangelical Christian Independent (ECI), a Muslim Independent (MI) and a Non-Faith Independent (NFI) school. It analyses data relating to each school with a view of generating hypotheses which predict the attitudes of tolerance displayed by the students in the various schools. These hypotheses will be tested against the findings from the analysis of the questions exploring the students’ attitudes of tolerance (see Chap.  6). Confirmation of a hypothesis will indicate that a particular aspect of the school is involved in the formation of that attitude.
