Abstract
Now it is time to capture the footage that you will use in your films! You might have a budget that affords the services of a professional videographer. However, let’s progress as though the filming responsibilities fall on your shoulders. Whether you are filming within a factory, a scripted scene in a city, or mountain landscape , it is advantageous to learn how to take shots that capture the appropriate information, communicate the right tone , and won’t leave you hanging when you are editing down the road. This chapter will focus on basic techniques for filming with a tripod . Stabilization gives you greater control over how you frame a scene and how elements within your shot interrelate. You might be surprised how much impact you can have by making small changes in the geometry of a scene. Framing and interaction is called composition . Understanding the intricacies of composition can empower you to add dimensionality and greater impact to your film. The concepts that I share come from a blend of personal experiences and advice from other video professionals.
