Felix the Fish (c.1922)

  • Robert Grötzsch

Felix the fish was a – wait, this beginning is wrong. I’ll try again. In olden days it so happened – no, that’s not the way either. This story begins like all really good fairy tales. Once upon a time there was a giant whose name was Adolf. It so happened that he came from the distant mountains down into the valley to wash his legs in the River Elbe, and he liked the river so much that he settled down on its banks for good, right on the river’s banks where most of the people lived. That was where he made his home, and soon one farmer found a cow missing; another, a horse; and another, cartloads of grain. The giant had an enormous appetite, and he grabbed everything he could lay his hands on.
