Abstract
Evaporation is an important component of hydrological cycle. It is a major factor which determines the irrigation water requirements of crops. Hence, the observation on evaporation is important for studying crop growth. The chapter gives a description of terms and units associated with evaporation and evapotranspiration. Various instruments and techniques used for measurement of evaporation and evapotranspiration have been discussed. Various empirical methods which estimate evapotranspiration on the basis of meteorological parameters are also included in the chapter.
