Abstract

There is always the possibility of problems arising after the delivery of the complete dentures. These problems can be examined in seven categories: pain, retention and stability loss, inadequate chewing, nausea, noises made by the dentures, poor esthetics, and problems relating to speech. These problems may be temporary and not very disturbing for the patient, or they could be serious enough to result in the patient being unable to tolerate the dentures. Placing a removable prosthesis in the oral cavity brings with it considerable changes that may negatively affect the oral tissues. The use of dysfunctional complete dentures may be an adverse factor in the maintenance of muscle function and nutritional status. This chapter explains post-insertion problems in detail for the complete denture patient.
