Abstract
Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) and resultant labral tears are increasingly recognized as a cause of pre-arthritic hip pain, particularly in younger athletes. Tears of the abductor tendons increase in prevalence with age, and females are more commonly affected than males. These injuries can be both a significant source of pain and dysfunction and may be present in as many as 20% of individuals with hip degeneration. Conservative management is typically effective in management of both conditions with surgery reserved for refractory cases. Arthroscopic treatment for FAI, labral tears, and tears of the abductor tendon is a successful treatment when indicated.
