Abstract

Tumor deposits (TDs) are seen in both adenocarcinomas of the gastrointestinal tract and squamous cell carcinomas of the head and neck region. These lesions are independent poor prognostic factors in different types of carcinomas. However, other than one very recent series, TDs were not evaluated in salivary gland tumors. Histopathological types of salivary gland malignant tumor and prognostic factors are summarized, and examples of TDs from neck dissection specimens are presented. Large series of salivary gland tumors should be evaluated for TDs in order to understand their prognostic value.
