Abstract

It is important, if regrettable, for us to acknowledge the fact that science and technology play a very small role in the general culture today. Scientific-technical culture is often considered only on the basis of its ability to solve practical problems, as a tool. However, science and technology, as mentioned in Chap. 1, play a fundamental role in the life of each person nowadays (including for people active in humanistic professions). The lack of an adequate scientific-technical culture can very often cause serious, even catastrophic, problems.
