Abstract
Medical students are often required to participate in clinic during their internal medicine clerkships, longitudinal experiences, and ambulatory electives. This chapter provides guidance on how to give faculty and students a rewarding experience in the ambulatory setting. Initial topics include the logistics of having medical students in clinic and how to incorporate them into a practice. Further subjects address preparing faculty by outlining their responsibilities, sharing tools needed for effective teaching, and reviewing incentives to recruit and retain faculty for teaching purposes; having both residents and students in clinic is addressed throughout the chapter, and a residents-as-teachers section is included as well.
