Abstract

The case discussed in this chapter presents an intervention that took place on the northern coast of Peru, in the city of Piura, as a consequence of an outbreak of dengue. The applied public health approach was the territorial management of health promotion. From this point of view, the importance of actively engaging social actors in a given territory is emphasized, with the aim of prompting the local government to assume the leadership commensurate with its role in the territory. The importance of intersectoral work, as well as the active participation of civil society, is highlighted as a key axis for successfully dealing with communicable diseases such as dengue.
