Abstract
A wide range of necropsy lesions may be present in cases of perianesthetic mortality in animals, and these findings must be correlated with the clinical scenario for each individual case. A thorough clinical history is of paramount importance and should include a description of the events surrounding the animal’s death. The pathologist must be knowledgeable of potential complications associated with specific procedures for which the animal was anesthetized, as well as with lesions that may be induced by resuscitation. As with all diagnostic cases, the relative significance of lesions to the cause of anesthesia-related death must be considered on an individual case basis.
