Abstract
In recent years international educational documents for foreign language teaching have tended to assign intercultural communicative competence (ICC) as its major goal. It is particularly true in the context of teaching English due to its lingua franca role. Yet research shows that foreign language teachers feel unprepared to assume the role of intercultural mediators and foreign language course books do not make this task any easier. There are, however, special intercultural sets which may be of use and teachers’ willingness and creativity is all that is needed. The goal of this article is to show how language and intercultural teaching can be intertwined using the example of one class run with Erasmus+ students in one of the Polish universities.
