Abstract
These structures are found in a few halophytic articulated species from Chenopodiaceae (Salicornia, Arthrocnemum, Sarcocornia). While their terminology has been used with certain confusion during time, their appearance, localisation and functions represented a matter of debate. Nowadays, it is accepted that they are located between palisade cells of succulent articulated segments; their possible roles in the adaptive ecological frame are discussed in detail.
