Left Intrapericardial Pneumonectomy

Abstract

The pericardium is opened by an incision posterior to and parallel with the left phrenic nerve. Superiorly, this incision continues to the limit of the pericardial reflection on the aortic arch overlying the ligamentum arteriosum. Inferiorly, it extends well below the inferior pulmonary vein. The left pulmonary artery is seen in the cranial part of the incision (Fig. 30.1).
