Abstract
Since the previous edition of this book this technique has evolved such that much less cartilage is removed. Just those parts of the costochondral cartilages are removed to allow realignment and approximation of the realigned sternum. Previously all the costal cartilages from at least 3–6 were excised. A further difference is the availability of metal plate and crimped clips and plate and screw kits designed for pectus surgery.
