Abstract
Nowadays, road transport is on the rise. The number of vehicles are still increasing and road network in terms of capacity and permeability ceases to satisfy. The fundamental problem is overloaded communications, overcrowded junctions and big delays particularly in the cities and also significant economic losses are associated with this situation. Therefore, it is necessary to design junctions and communications with regard to future needs of population. In the Slovak republic is designing and capacity calculating of junctions based on technical conditions, “TC 04/2004” which is approved by Ministry of Transport and Construction of the Slovak Republic. At the end of 2015 the new document, “TC 16/2015” came into force and replaced the older one. In our paper, we will discuss the traffic modelling of roundabout in the city of Žilina, where in the peak hour, congestions periodically occur and the network is impermeable. The analysis and capacity assessment of this junction will be conducted according to both technical conditions TC 04/2004 and TC 16/2015. In conclusion, we design some possibilities how this situation can be solve.
