Abstract

Tarski’s representation problem for relation algebras was ultimately given a negative solution by Lyndon (see the historical remarks in Section 17.9, and see also Theorem 17.15, the fourth example in Section 17.5, and Theorem 18.33). Nevertheless, the search for a positive solution that proceeded Lyndon’s work led to several positive partial results of a quite general character.
