Abstract
Although the ancient capital of Xi’an is well known to Westerners, few realize that there is such a number and range of wonderful things to see. Brunt discovers that the theatre is truly amazing, the museum is a treasure trove, the city walls are hugely impressive and the Big Goose Pagoda (a seven-story library tower built around 700 CE that you can still walk up to admire the view) rivals anything from ancient Rome or Constantinople. This letter showcases some of the finest things in China.
