Part of the Astronomers' Universe book series (ASTRONOM)

Abstract

The contributions of the Four Pillars, the environment in which they operated, and their research approach that influenced future generations of scientists are discussed. The chapter concludes by posing a question: have we learned from the successes of the past, and do our current research environments still foster the same degree of innovation and support for our next generation of system thinkers?
