Abstract
The Relational Learning Framework (RLF) provides vital information about how a child’s previous adverse experiences have shaped their view of themselves and relationships with others. The RLF assists foster parents and practitioners to understand the child’s perspective, and this understanding can guide day-to-day decisions, interactions and conversations with the child. From this information, the RLF is used to help the child to have a different experience of relationships. This chapter provides detailed instructions on how to facilitate and construct a group RLF, who should attend the RLF meeting and using the RLF in various contexts, including individual foster families. Methods of identifying important information and understanding its potential significance to the child are outlined. A detailed example of how to work through the information is provided, along with a completed RLF.
