Abstract
Hanly et al., [1], although the overall paper is weak, did identify a theme of re-integration back into society post-surgery [1]. What was identified correctly was an altered self-perception, altered emotional perception and relationships. The paper has highlighted the problem of re-integration, and although mentioning communication, relationships with health professionals does nothing to develop it further (Level 2b, recommendation B). This aspect of care needs to be developed for as part of this pathway. The requirement is in line with other research, Davison et al., [2] found few men regretted having surgery but, ongoing assessment of the effect of surgical treatment on sexual function, sexuality and masculinity certainly deserves further exploration [2].
