Abstract

A second answer to the problems summarized in Chap. 6 involves deciding democratically on value issues in science and scientific advice. Such a democratic solution might take many forms and follow different ideals of representation. However, no democratic arrangement will be able to remove all of the decision-making tasks from the shoulders of scientific advisors. In fact, democratization creates new non-epistemological choices for scientists, for instance on tutoring laypersons on scientific choices.
