Abstract

This chapter begins by considering the ways in which the Romantic child is gendered as male, before showing how Sara is written out of this discourse and into a feminised landscape. Editing STC’s Biographia Literaria and Essays on His Own Times become a way to re-embody her absent father, but also to turn the transcendent Romantic child into an immanent and knowing figure who does not demand maternal suffering as the price of eternal childhood.
