Abstract

A 2-year-old girl presented to the emergency department with daily fevers for approximately 1 month, ranging from 102 to 104 °F orally. She did not have upper respiratory symptoms, cough, vomiting, diarrhea, joint swelling, mouth sores, or rash. When febrile, the child wanted to remain in bed and refused to eat, but shortly after taking ibuprofen she would begin to behave almost normally. At a local emergency department approximately 1 week prior to the current presentation, the parents were told that she likely had a viral illness, and she was sent home.
