Abstract
Veterans and military personnel represent a growing segment of US residents. Increasingly, these individuals are overrepresented among persons with disabilities. Of those living in rural areas, multiple barriers exist across various domains, including transportation, access to healthcare, education and training, employment, and community reintegration. The structural, political, and social factors that contribute to inequality experienced by veterans and military personnel in rural areas are explored. In addition, the mental health and psychosocial adjustment concerns for this population are discussed. Given the diversity of age groups that comprise this population, a life span perspective is essential to this chapter.
