Abstract

Medical training has always relied upon the patient serving as the instruments of medical education. One way physicians are amending their training while keeping patient safety paramount is through simulation. This is a relatively new and emerging field with the aim to allow trainees to practice techniques and procedures in a controlled environment that does not jeopardize patient health. Within this chapter, the currently available simulators relevant to urology are explored. These simulators can be broadly divided into covering open, endoscopic, laparoscopic, and robotic surgery. It is our hope that by grouping the currently validated simulation options in one chapter, an educator may find simulators suitable for his or her practice and be able to implement them into surgical education.
